Here are some various rants to give you something to think about! These are a few comments made to me along with my responses. You should get in on the exchange by following my at Larry Winget Fan Page on Facebook. It’s always lively and a fair representation from both sides of most arguments and at the minimum, it’s entertaining! Plus, I have been posting some great “mini-posters” that you can use on your own pages.

Larry, I realize you make your money by being a hard ass, but actually MOST people are good. If you want to get even richer, why don’t you go on an all out smart-ass, Pitt-bull, grab em by their balls fight against our mindless congress men and women and our joke of The Oh so Supreme Court members. Neglect the common man for awhile and attack the REAL problem… Our law makers whom by the way are the ones that give people the incentives to lay on their ass.

Amy, I attack the politicians plenty and if you have been reading my rants about the Occupy folks you would see that is exactly what I am telling them to do; go after the real problem: politicians. However, remember, the politicians have their jobs because “the common man” voted them in. A small percentage of “common men” cared enough to get off their butts and vote. We don’t like to hear it but our problem IS the fault of the common man and we have exactly the government we deserve. It may not be the government we need or want, no argument from me there, but it’s still the government we put in place. It always amazes me when people make such a disconnect between themselves and our elected officials. These idiots didn’t just wander into Washington and start laying down the law. We handed it to them on a silver platter by giving them our money, support and votes and didn’t do anything to hold them accountable until things went to Hell. Well, it’s gone to Hell and we all want to blame them but won’t take the time to realize they are us and that this is our own fault.

Hey Larry, what advice would you give for someone making the transition from the traditional 9-5 to starting their own business? I know you can tell it as it is.
Larry Winget Fan Page – https://www.facebook.com/LarryWingetFanPage
I would say don’t quit your day job. It is extremely hard to start your own business in the best of times much less in a recession and with our current economic uncertainty. Plus, the failure rate is extremely high even when conditions are perfect. Start something “on the side” so you don’t have to completely rely on the new business as your only source of income.

Mr Winget,
I admire your perspective and have been a fan of yours for some time now. For the most part I agree with a lot of what you say. That being said, this was passed on to me and I looked it over and wanted to know if you have looked at these 41 slides and if so, what are your thoughts on them. Thank you, (long time fan, first time communicator)

Thanks for sending. And while I have seen these charts and understand them and don’t doubt their validity, this protest still is missing the point from my perspective. By the way, This is a BIG topic that cannot be answered adequately in a Facebook response.
Yes, there is corruption on Wall Street but I promise you I can find the same greed and corruption on Main Street. Yes, there is an unfair tax code. Those are just a few of the problems with our broken system. But trust me, the protesters don’t have a clue about any of these charts, nor do they really understand the way the economy works. Instead, 34% of them compare the United States to Al Queda. Let’s ask a soldier back from Iraq or Afghanistan if he agrees with that stupid statement. These 34% should be ashamed! If the protesters weren’t for the most part, a part of the entitled society and on unemployment or SSI or some other government support, but really were working people who currently had jobs, their point would be considered more seriously by those of us who vote, work, pay taxes and are tired of the whining. And while I am pro-protest, I do my protesting where it counts, at the voting booth. The protesters for the most part have never voted. They think it doesn’t matter, which is stupid, as it is about all that matters in this situation.
And now, it’s gotten violent. I said it would two weeks ago and some responded with, “Americans are better than that.”. How wrong those folks turned out to be. I also predict it will only get more violent.
As I said here last week, blaming Wall Street for what is wrong with our system is like blaming the kid selling a dime bag of grass on the corner; he’s wrong, but he isn’t the problem. This is a government issue and not an issue with capitalism. Capitalism is king. Profitability is a good thing. Rich people are a good thing.
By the way, if you took all of the money that the top 1% earns away from them, you still wouldn’t make a 2% difference. Should they pay more? Yes! But should everyone pay SOMETHING? Absolutely!!! If you are going to tax the rich, let’s tax everyone. Nearly half pay NOTHING. Is that fair? And if you took all of the money in our country and divided it equally among everyone (socialism) it would take about 5 years for it to end back up in the hands of the people you took it from (capitalism.) That is why capitalism works and socialism doesn’t.
And I am so weary of the “can’t find a job” crap. Yes, jobs are tough to find, but there are jobs out there. In fact, there are lots of jobs out there. Many people could have jobs today but respond with “I am unwilling to work for something that is beneath me.” I despise those people. Nothing is beneath me when it comes to honest work for an honest wage. And I would rather shovel manure as a job than take government money. Why? 1. It’s honest work. 2. I’m not too good to do it. 3. It’s the right thing to do for my own self-esteem and for my family. 4. Turning down a job because my ego might get bruised is despicable. 5. The government doesn’t owe me a damn thing.
Larry, did you see the story about the farmers in Alabama who can’t find people to work on the farms since they’ve chased all the illegal aliens off? http://news.yahoo.com/few-americans-immigrants-jobs-alabama-214330758.html
bingo: i was a faculty assistant at a community college while i was studying computer information systems. it got to the point i was sick and tired of dealing with “real” canadians because those were the only ones telling me “i’m paying for this, you OWE me a degree”. the immigrants? the ones who could barely speak english? “please, miss! please, miss! you have time? you teach-a me? you look, please?”
one of them arrived in canada on a monday, started school exactly 7 days later speaking not one word of english – NOT ONE, not even “hello”. everything was smile, nod, bow, “hai, hai”.
she started her tape recorder the moment she sat down and made exact drawings of the chalkboard.
then she went home and her brother spent 3hrs a night explaining everything to her. she did all her assignments in very beautiful kanji, her brother translated to english, and she paid a freakin’ notary to certify that it was a true and genuine copy of her answers.
just for grins n giggles, she took ESL classes three nights a week.
all this was at her own expense, i should add.
in six weeks, she could carry a rudimentary conversation: good morning/afternoon/evening, how are you, the weather is fine, where is the bus stop?
in 4 months, she spoke consistently, if haltingly, in english – she stopped speaking her native language at all times when she was not at home and her assignments were for the most part in english.
by the end of the first year, she was ripping it out like she’d been born to the lingo (although still with the most wonderfully exotic accent).
i had no problem giving up my spare time, lunch time, free time to help her because by golly, it got results far above and beyond the effort i put in.
so yes – i am so disgusted by the ones who think that just because they had the great good privilege to be born and raised here, it somehow means they are “owed”.
I got a sore ass from kicking it everyday……thanks to that damn Larry!…….Out of all my motivational books at the house…….Larry Winget’s books seems to be THE ONLY ONES I CAN TRULY READ FROM COVER TO COVER!……………..IT SO HAPPENS THAT GETTING PISSED OFF HAS GOT ME FURTHER THAN THAT SWEET, SOFT CUDDLY B.S…..Everybody else is talking about…….I’M EARNING MORE MONEY, DROPPING MY SORRY ASS FRIENDS, AND GETTING READY TO PURCHASE OUR SECOND REAL ESTATE PROPERTY!………….THANKS THAT DAMN LARRY WINGET!…….UGGGGGGHHHHH……MOTIVATION SUCKS!……LOLOLOL!!!
I read your reply about the government that we have is our own fault because we put them there. My question is who can you vote for when the only choices available seem to be liars, thieves, and con men, ie. politicians? It just seems as though their job is simply to get themeselves re-elected, and they will promise anything to achieve that goal. Couple that with an education system designed to dumb down the country (what happend to the great system we had in the50’s & 60’s), and a media so biased that we may as well be in a socialized country, so what chance do we have? This definately is whining, but it’s difficult to make any sense of our situation. Please Comment.
Awesome again Larry. Thank you….I just love your message!! Take Care.
Well Larry, I dont disagree with you but you cant abandon the system. Whether we like it or not, the economy is in the hands of the politicians. We have to keep voting and participating. And until we take back the education system from the unions, dont expect it to improve. Of course, that is the same with our manufacturing sector as well.
Any organization that tries to achieve reform (I’m starting to hate that word) will at best be vilified as in Tea Party or at worst be ignored. I suppose what you say is correct-do what you can, but don’t do nothing. I can’t help but think that just voting for real reform is like trying to put out a forrest fire by spitting into it(my weak attempt at humor). I’ve written countless letters to my so called representatives and I’ve called on the phone. This exercise proves that I am invisible. I appreciate your allowing a place to rant’ at least I feel better for a minute. I enjoy you stuff even though what you recommend is really difficult to do consistently. I know the buck stops with the guy in the mirror. Thanks
Larry, thanks for all your career tips for my students. I am an agriculture HS teacher by trade and teach a school-to-work class. This involves a group of seniors flipping burgers, doing some welding, working on farms or maybe helping out at Walmart. I love your comments for our youth and welcome any resources that you continue to offer for our strapped education system. Regards from Wisconsin, Jeff Meske
At least vote against the incumbents! But VOTE! People of all races, creeds, colors, and sexes fought and died for the right to vote. Use it or lose it, people!
I sort of wish that presidents had one-term limits as opposed to two-term limits. That way, they have a finite time to do what they want, and don’t “play it safe” for re-election, and each election cycle would have a cleaner slate.
As far as voting against incumbents, it sounds good, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a gamechanger; we have two parties, each deadlocked. Even if one gets a majority in both houses, each is just going to push their agenda anyway. What would be better to do would be to really look at your representative’s and senator’s voting record. I’d argue the best people to elect are those who vote for their constituency’s best interests, as opposed to their own personal feelings and beliefs.
I quite agree with you on the “can’t get a job” syndrome, Larry. There are plenty of jobs out there, but people think that the jobs are “beneath” them. I say:
– No job is beneath you, e.g. manure shoveller
– No job is above you, e.g. prime minister/president
– Your job is what you do, not what you are.
This maladaptive way of thinking is caused by snobbery – one of the worst things to come out of my country, England….. 🙁
Hi Larry
I am reading your book People Are Idiots.. and I had a question about the lists you have readers do. specifically, 2 lists. The “I’ve been lazy list” and the “I’m stupid” list.
I started writing them and also transposed them onto a note app in my iphone (btw, possible APP idea? 😉 ) for me to review and revise regularly.
I’m finding that the lazy list and the stupid list almost seem the same. As I understand it, the stupid list asks what we know we should be doing and are not and the lazy list seems to be asking what I could be doing and am not. Almost sounds like the same question twice. What nuance am I missing that may help me better understand and utilize the lists?
I also wanted to thank you for your no holds barred approach to your work and encouragements. It has been both offensive and inspiring. I recognize that both are sometimes needed to wake us up and see where we need to be doing. Thank You 🙂
